The father of Prime Minister David Cameron has died, while on holiday in France.

The Prime Minister was due to attend Prime Minister's Questions this afternoon but pulled out so that he could visit his father who had suffered.

Ian Cameron died in hospital shortly after his son the Prime Minister arrived to see him.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, stood in for Mr Cameron at PMQ's while Jack Straw led the questioning of the Opposition in place of acting Labour Party leader Harriet Harman.

The Prime Minister had only just returned from paternity leave after the birth of his latest child, Florence.
