Rafael Nadal takes on Fabio Fognini in the third round of the men's singles clash of the 2015 US Open on Saturday, 5 September.

Overview

After winning the US Open twice in 2010 and 2013, Nadal will be hoping to win his first Grand Slam of the calendar year later this month. He has had a disappointing year as he crashed out in the quarter-final of both the Australian Open and the French Open against Tomas Berdych and Novak Djokovic respectively.

The former World No 1 lost in the second round of Wimbledon, but has put that behind in the final Grand Slam of the year. In the second round clash against Diego Schwartzman, he won the first set in a tiebreaker. Nadal sealed the match with a final score of 7-6, 6-3, 7-5. He will be looking for another straight set victory in the third round clash.

Fognini, on the other hand, had a comfortable victory over Pablo Cuevas in the second round clash. He defeated the Uruguayan in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Having defeated Nadal twice in the last three encounters, the Italian will be hoping to seal another win over the Spaniard.
