Overview

Seven-time Rome Masters champion Rafael Nadal has had a brilliant run in 2016 and he will look to continue this form when he opens his campaign against Philipp Kohlschreiber on 11 May (Wednesday).

His winning streak of 13 matches may have been broken by Murray in the semi-final of the Madrid Open but the Spaniard is undoubtedly having one of his best seasons of recent times. There is still some way to go to reach the level of the Nadal of old, but with the French Open looming he will want to exert his dominance and win his eighth title.

World number 26 Philipp Kohlschreiber is playing his fifth straight week of tennis with rhythm not being an issue for the German. Kohlschreiber won his fifth ATP title earlier this year at Munich but he has never yet taken a set of his opponent in 13 encounters so far.

It is unlikely he will win against Nadal in what is the most anticipated match of the day.
