Overview

RR won their first match of this year's IPL by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday. The Royals' bowlers restricted their opponents to 133 runs in 20 overs, with Dhawal Kulkarni, Kane Richardson and Rajat Bhatia all taking two wickets each.

The Jaipur based outfit got off to a slow start and lost Abhishek Nayar (4) in the first over. They had already lost three wickets in the seventh over having managed only 31 runs. However, Ajinkya Rahane combined with Stuart Binny to change the course of the game.

The duo helped their team cross the 100-run mark with Rahane scoring 59 runs prior to his dismissal in the 16th over. Paddy Upton's side lost two more wickets in Brad Hodge (1) and Bhatia (4), but James Faulkner and Binny stayed on to see RR past the finishing line.

Binny remained unbeaten scoring 48 runs from 32 balls and Faulkner scored eight runs after smashing two fours, thus completing the chase with three balls to spare.

Meanwhile, KXIP too began their IPL campaign with a stunning victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Friday.

Batting first, MS Dhoni's men scored a staggering total of 205 runs in 20 overs losing just four wickets. Lakshmipathy Balaji was the highest wicket taker for the Mohali based outfit taking two wickets, while Parvinder Awana and Akshar Patel took one wicket each.

The opening pair of Cheteshwar Pujara and Virender Sehwag gave the Kings a flying start but the latter departed in the third over having scored 19 runs. His partner too followed suit managing to add just 13 runs to the tally with the scoreboard now reading, 38 for two.

Patel only added two more runs before joining the two openers once again in the dugout. But Glenn Maxwell and David Miller swung the tie in the Kings' favour.

The Australian right-handed batsman scored 95 runs in 43 balls while Miller played a peripheral role. Following Maxwell's dismissal with 167 runs on the board, the South African combined with skipper George Bailey and completed his half-century scoring 54 runs in total.

Bailey smashed two fours to complete the chase en route to scoring 17 runs in 10 deliveries and helped his team open the seventh IPL season with a victory against his former side.

In the points table, KXIP are currently third with two points while RR are sitting fourth due to inferior Net Run-Rate (NRR).

The winner of today's game can potentially leapfrog Royal Challengers Bangalore to reach the top of the table if they boast a superior NRR than the current leaders.
