Ray Parlour has hailed Arsenal's strength in depth in midfield and believes that the Gunners' strength in depth is reminiscent of the Barcelona side who have been so successful over the years.

The Gunners are currently top of the table, albeit on goals scored but have been one of the best sides thus far in the Premier League. The north London club are unbeaten in their last six games and have successfully come back after a dismal start to their 2013/14 campaign where they lost 3-1 to Aston Villa at home on the opening day of the season.

Everyone surrounding the club is expecting a title challenge this season and with the likes of Mesut Ozil in the side, the Gunners look a different outfit to the one last season which scraped fourth place over Tottenham. Arsenal will be boosted by the return of the likes of Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Santi Cazorla and Lukas Podolski among the senior players in the next couple of weeks and Parlour believes that it will be a headache for Arsene Wenger to choose the right squad among such wealth in talent.

" When you look at teams like Barcelona, their midfield has always been the most important part of their game so hopefully Arsenal will be very similar. It's looking very strong, no matter who starts. There is so much depth in the midfield with Mikel Arteta, Mathieu - who has been a great signing - Ozil, Jack Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Cazorla - so it's a real headache for the manager. When everybody is fit it will be interesting to see what sort of side the manager puts out," he told www.arsenal.com.

Aaron Ramsey has been the standout player this season, scoring goals, making tackles and has been the central figure in everything that the Gunners have accomplished this year. The young Welshman, who suffered a broken leg in 2010, has finally shrugged off the ghosts of his past and is fulfilling his potential when he came to the Emirates as a 17-year-old.

"Aaron Ramsey's been the player of the season so far, he's been superb with the goals he's scored but the whole midfield are very adaptive now. At the moment Ramsey's guaranteed a place in my team, Flamini as well with the way he is playing in that holding role. Then it's who plays around them? Ozil obviously is going to play behind the front and then you've got Cazorla, who had a great season last year, so I'm sure he'll be back in the side as well," he concluded.
