Real Madrid has won the race to sign Sergio Aguero according to UK newspaper the Daily Mail.

The daily newspaper claims that Real Madrid have fought off interest from Manchester United, Chelsea and Barcelona to land their target but will have to wait until summer at the earliest to sign the talented Brazilian striker.

It is reported that Jose Mourinho will make Neymar the fourth most expensive player in footballing history with a £53m move for the Brazilian starlet. However, Neymar has refused to confirm that he has had a medical with the Bernebeu club and insists he will be staying at Santos for the foreseeable future.

"I have been sold around 30 times already," Neymar told Lancenet.

"There is no truth in those rumours. I am a Santos player and I will stay here for the club's centenary," the striker added.

Argentine legend Maradona has claimed that he told Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho to sign Sergio Aguero this summer if they wanted to compete with Barcelona this season.

It was rumoured that Sergio Aguero would move to the Bernebeu this summer but the Argentine striker opted for a move to Manchester City instead. Diego Maradona has said that Madrid should have signed the player this summer and the form of Aguero in the Premier League shows that they made a mistake.

"I actually advised Real Madrid to sign Aguero," the Argentina great said. "I felt he would be a very good player to fit into their squad, so that they can become a much more competitive side and maybe even rise up to the level of Barcelona," Maradona said.

Aguero has scored eight goals in five Premier League appearances for his new club.

According to Sportevai, Real Madrid are looking to bolster their attacking options in the January transfer window and are eyeing Inter Milan striker Giampaolo Pazzini, who has struggled to get a look-in at the San Siro this season. Real could also find they have competition for the Italian international's signature, with Juventus and Liverpool rumoured to be interested.
