A-listers from the Hong Kong film industry including actress Shu Qi and singer Coco Lee dazzled at the 31st Hong Kong Film Awards.

The annual ceremony is regarded as the Hong Kong equivalents of the Academy Awards and the Baftas.

Snapping the awards for the best film, screenplay, director, actor and actress was the movie, A Simple Life, based on a true-love story between an elderly loyal servant and her young master.

"I would like to thank Hong Kong. I grew up here and I received my education here. This city has given me a lot of inspirations," the AFP quoted Ann Hui saying after receiving the best director award.

Presentation for the award ceremony took place Hong Kong Cultural Centre on 15 April, 2012. However, the nomination list was announced earlier in 8 February, 2012. The hosts for the ceremony included Eric Tsang, Bowie Tsang, Gordon Lam, Ronald Cheng and Angelababy while the hosts of the red carpet were Jerry Lamb and Stephanie Che.

The annual award ceremony, currently in its 31<sup>st year of celebration, is one of the most prestigious award ceremonies of Chinese film's industry alongside Taiwan's Golden Horse Awards.

For the current year, the Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Nieh Kong for his contribution to original film scripts.

Nieh Kong has created more than three hundred original film scripts that have significantly inspired the Hong Kong movie creation. One of the most well-known Chinese culture heroes, Chen Zhen was created by him in film "Fist of Fury".

Apart from this, the Professional Achievement Award was presented to Fong Ho Yuen, a stage photographer who has worked behind the scenes for over thirty years in numerous movie productions.
