Singer Rihanna was forced to cancel a show in Malmo, Sweden, after being hospitalised with the flu on Monday night.

The 23-year-old then tweeted a photo onto Twitter of her arm hooked up to an IV drip with the caption "Sorry Malmo."

In a longer statement, Rihanna said: ""I am sorry to everyone who was coming out to my show in Malmo, Sweden. I was so excited to perform for you all. It would have been a great time ... so much better than being sick with the flu, ugh! I'm really disappointed I couldn't be there."

A spokesperson has since said that Rihanna was "not in condition to conduct the concert." She is also due to perform in Stockholm on Tuesday night.

"It was very sad. It could well have [been] communicated earlier," Natalie Wierenga, told Sydsvenskan, a local Malmo newspaper.

The Barbadian singer is currently touring for her fifth studio album 'Loud.' The tour started in June in Baltimore, and is expected to finish in December in London.

Last month Rihanna's single We Found Love went straight in at number one in the UK charts.
