Overview

Roger Federer will be the overwhelming favourite to go into the third round when he takes on Alexandr Dolgopolov in the second round of the 2016 Australian Open. The Swiss maestro came through his opening encounter with relative ease, dispatching Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-2 6-1 6-2.

The world number three is coming into the tournament in good form following his run to the finals at his one and only tournament for the year thus far at the Brisbane International. Federer lost the final to Milos Raonic, but that was mainly due to the illness that affected the four-time Australian Open champion.

Dolgopolov, meanwhile, needed four sets to overcome his Lithuanian opponent Ricardas Berankis 6-1 3-6 6-4 6-2. But the Ukrainian could prove to be a tougher task for Federer to overcome as he will be aware of a few of the Swiss player's tactics after training with him prior to the 2015 Australian Open in Dubai in 2015.
