A story alleging that Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin has died in a car crash is a hoax, IBTimes UK can confirm.

According to a Twitter account, which is allegedly belongs to the Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Igor Sechin has died in a car crash in Moscow.

In the style of a newsflash, the tweet says: "URGENT: ROSNEFT CEO IGOR SECHIN DIES IN MOSCOW FOR CAR ACCIDENT."

However, the information and the Twitter account cannot be verified.

IBT has spoken to Rosneft's Moscow-based spokesperson, who told us that "it is not true. He is fine. He walks."

The so-called official Twitter account of Kolokoltsev has only made two tweets since it was created on 27 November this year.
