Overview

The first semi-final of the Rotterdam Open will see surprise semi-finalists Nicolas Mahut and Martin Klizan face off on 13 February (Saturday) at the Ahoy Arena. The unseeded Klizan saved five match points against Roberto Bautista Agut in the quarter-final, eventually winning 6-7 (5), 7-6 (6), 6-0 in a match that lasted nearly three hours. The world number 46 has been around the tennis circuit for a few years but has failed to impress much due to inconsistency.

Klizan, who has two ATP titles to his credit albeit in the ATP 250 tour, will be looking to win his first ATP 500 title, something which the 26-year-old needs to kick-start his tennis career. With the Slovakian playing in his favourite clay surface, he is capable of winning on his day.

Qualifier Mahut, famously known for competing in history's longest ever tennis match against John Isner at Wimbledon, reached the semi-final after beating eighth seed Viktor Troicki 6-2, 6-1 in the quarter-final. Mahut, who is the oldest player in the draw at 34, will be competing in his eighth career semi-final and has now won five matches on the trot in the Netherlands.

The Frenchman, playing his fifth tournament of the season, will be looking to hit top form and secure what will be his first ATP title of 2016.
