As news spread worldwide that Kate Middleton had given birth to a baby boy, a torrent of online reaction poured forth in the form of hilarious memes and jokes.

While some royal watchers found comical ways to celebrate the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's first-born, others expressed their frustration that a fourth-generation Windsor has seen the light of day.

Fans have swarmed over chat rooms and social media pages to ask what the baby will be called, where he will be raised and whether he will look more like Kate or William.

So its comes as no surprise that, barely a day old, the new prince is the hot topic of a new batch of satirical and downright silly images with overlaid captions.

The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth at 4.24pm to a baby boy weighing 8lbs 6oz after she was admitted to St Mary's Hospital. The Duke of Cambridge was also present for the birth.

Although Prince William and Kate Middleton did not release a statement in the aftermath of the birth the new parents later said: "We would like to thank the staff at the Lindo Wing and the whole hospital for the tremendous care the three of us have received.

"We know it has been a very busy period for the hospital and we would like to thank everyone - staff, patients and visitors - for their understanding during this time."

While thosands of well-wishers partied late into the night outside Buckingham Palace, even in the thunder, lightning and torrential rain, memes began to spring up across the internet.
