Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs has lavished praise on summer signing Angel Di Maria, claiming the Argentine star "gets bums off seats and excites him".

Manager Louis van Gaal made the former Real Madrid star United's marquee summer signing after paying £59.7m to bring the midfielder to Old Trafford, breaking the British transfer record in the process.

Even though some questioned Di Maria's signing and whether United overpaid to secure his services, the ex-Real Madrid star has managed to prove his worth since his first game in the Premier League, capturing the supporters' hearts and also impressing Giggs.

"He gets bums off seats and he excites me. He's the kind of player you love to watch," Giggs said, according to Manchester Evening news.

The former Real Madrid star has already scored three goals and provided three assists in his first five games at Manchester United, while receiving the club's player of the month award for September.

Van Gaal has took advantage of Di Maria's versatility to deploy him in various roles since his debut against Burnley, excelling both as a midfielder in a 3-5-2 formation and on the left-flank in the 4-4-2 diamond system.

Giggs has hailed his rapid adaptation to the Premier League pace, claiming the Di Maria is so good, he barely needs any coaching tips.

"You don't need to do a lot with him," Giggs said. "He's that sort of player, he's a free spirit. He will take you from box to box really quickly and he will create and score goals."
