The awards season continues with the 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild or SAG Awards -- honouring the best performances in film and primetime television -- all set to air tonight (25 January).

The host networks TNT and TBS are making sure this year's ceremony reaches millions of viewers via the digital platforms. In addition to broadcasting the SAG Awards live from the Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, US, TBS and TNT will have a social media team to provide behind-the-scenes play-by-play before and during the ceremony using the hashtag #sagawards, reports Latin Times.

Leading the film nominees this year is Oscar favourite Birdman with four nominations including Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and individual acting nominations for Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, and Emma Stone.

In the television categories, Modern Family leads with four nominations while House of Cards, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones and Homeland have three nominations each.

The SAG Awards will begin at 6pm (ET)/3pm (PT) with the Red Carpet Pre-Show which can be watched online via live stream on: sagawards.tntdrama.com and sagawards.org
