The 22<sup>nd Screen Actors Guild Awards were held last night (30 January) at Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles and the list of this year's winners is out. The award show recognises work done in both television and films and is the only event where actors from the industry vote for the best performances.

Spotlight, which follows the Pulitzer prize-winning Boston Globe investigation of the church, was voted as having an outstanding cast in a motion picture. After his big win at the Golden Globes, Leonardo Di Caprio took home the award for best male actor for his role in The Revenant. Brie Larson who played the lead in Room was named best female actor.

Idris Elba won two awards, one for outstanding actor in a TV movie for Luther, and the other for his supporting role in Beasts of No Nation.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to diverse TV," he said during one of his appearances on stage as a presenter, referring to the ongoing White Oscar controversy.
