Samsung has been reportedly planning to release a tablet that will run on Microsoft's Windows RT when the operating system (OS) is unveiled, according to a report by Bloomberg which claims to have obtained the piece of information from certain unnamed sources familiar with this matter.

The South Korean tech giant is said to have made a computer running on Windows RT, said the sources who wished to remain unnamed since the plan has not been yet made public.

Samsung's Windows RT tablet is expected to be released in October this year. Samsung's plan to support Windows RT appeared following the company's earlier announcement that it would back another version of Windows. The Windows RT OS has created an opportunity for chip makers, including Qualcomm, Texas Instrument and Nvidia, to compete with the Intel and AMD for orders in the computer industry.

As far as specifications are concerned, Samsung's Windows RT tablet will be powered by a Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor. The source did not give other details of the device and its price.

Earlier in April, Microsoft announced three different versions of Windows 8 operating system -- Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro and Windows RT previously known as Windows on ARM or WOA. Windows RT will be available pre-installed on PCs and tablets powered by ARM processors. The OS will feature touch-optimised desktop versions of the new Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. It will also feature a few new apps.

Soon after Apple's announcement of its 15in MacBook Pro with Retina Display at the WWDC event, Microsoft announced two Surface series tablets -- Surface for Windows RT and Surface for Windows 8 Pro. The consumer-focused Surface for Windows RT model will be powered by ARM-based Nvidia Tegra chip whereas the business focused model -- Surface for Windows 8 Pro will be powered by a third generation Intel Core chip. The Surface for Windows RT tablet will be released with the availability of Windows 8 and the Surface for Windows 8 Pro model is expected to be available in three months.
