Samsung has finally rolled out its first official Android 4.4.2 KitKat update with build number I9500XXUFNB3, for the international variant of Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500). The new KitKat update comes at a strategic time when the company is planning to launch its next flagship phone in the Galaxy series, the Galaxy S5.
Following the recent Android 4.4.2 KitKat roll-out for Galaxy Note 3, the S4 I9500 becomes the second device in the Galaxy line-up to be eligible for the latest Android update.
Among other key feature changes, the new Android 4.4.2 I9500XXUFBN3 KitKat update brings a handful of minor UI tweaks including the white status bar icons substituting the native multi-coloured icons found in older Galaxy devices.
As SamMobile reports, the new KitKat update also offers considerable performance boost along with improved benchmark scores. Samsung has also improved the lock-screen feature by introducing a camera shortcut for quick access directly from lock-screen, besides adding full-screen functionality for displaying album art while playing music.
The native keyboard layout is revamped to support landscape mode for quicker and easier gesture typing. In addition, the core system changes found in Android 4.4.2 KitKat release include wireless printing, new emojis support, choice between stock messaging app and Hangouts for SMS/MMS and option for changing default launchers under settings.
As the KitKat update is being rolled out in phases, it may take some time (especially carrier branded phones), before it is available in your country or region.
Nevertheless, those who missed the Over-The-Air (OTA) update notification and those who cannot wait for its official release in their country can try downloading and installing the same manually by navigating to Settings > More > About Device > Software update > Update.
