Android 4.0.4 XXALH 2 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS)) firmware for the international version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (N8000) has been released. The file was meant for users in Germany but should work for other users as well. The Galaxy Note 10.1 originally shipped with Android 4.0.3. This update reportedly brings security fixes, bug fixes and performance enhancement.

Users looking to update may follow below instructions. IBTimes UK warns users the file works only with the Galaxy Note 10.1 (N8000) and will not be held responsible for damages; verify the device's model number by navigating to Settings > About Phone. In addition, back-up all important data before proceeding. Ensure UBS drivers for Note 10.1 are installed and USB debugging mode is enabled. Finally, ensure there is at least 80 percent battery charge.

To Install Android 4.0.4 XXALH2 for Galaxy Note 10.1

  • Download Android 4.0.4 XXALH2
  • Download Odin3 v1.85
  • Turn device off and place it in Download Mode (press and hold Volume Down and Power buttons until Samsung logo appears on screen)
  • Start Odin and connect device using USB cable while in Download Mode
  • In Odin select these files in the order mentioned
    • Click on PDA and select Code
    • Click on Phone and select Modem
    • Click on CSC and select CSC
    • Click on Pit and .pit
    • Note: Ignore final three if such files are not named
  • Start installation in Odin
  • After installation, a PASS message will appear in a box at the top of Odin's screen. The device will now reboot and you may unplug once the Samsung logo appears

The Galaxy Note 10.1 (N8000) is now running Android 4.0.4 XXALH2. You can verify software version by browsing to Settings > About Phone.

To root Android 4.0.4 XXALH2 on Galaxy Note 10.1

  • Download RootGalaxyNote10.1.zip and extract contents to PC; there should be four files inside
  • Connect device to PC and copy CWM-SuperSU-vo.94.zip to the SD card
  • Turn device off and place it in Download Mode (press and hold Volume Down and Power buttons until Samsung logo appears on screen)
  • Start Odin and connect device using USB cable while in Download Mode
  • In Odin, click on PDA and select HighOnAndroidCWMRecoveryGTN8000.tar
  • Begin installation via Odin; device will restart after completion
  • Place device in CWM Recovery Mode by pressing Volume Up and Power buttons until Samsung logo appears
  • Navigate to SD card, select CWM-SuperSU.vo.94.zip file and confirm installation
  • After installation, browse to main Recovery menu and reboot system

The Galaxy Note 10.1 running XXALH2 ICS firmware is successfully rooted.
