Overview

The clash between Schalke and Dortmund is one of the most exciting fixtures in Germany's top flight football competition. The two fiercest rivals in Bundesliga take on each other and in this season's first derby, both teams have been hit hard by injuries.

Schalke come into this fixture after sealing a comfortable 3-1 away victory over Werder Bremen. Max Meyer, Roman Neustadter and Tranquillo Barnetta were on the scoresheet and two out of the three goals were assisted by Dutch international Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

The host team's manager Jens Keller would be hoping his side could seal a crucial victory over their local rivals. However, Schalke have to do without the services of their star player Julian Draxler, who is suspended for the weekend derby.

What Managers Say

Jens Keller: "We do not need to motivate anyone for this duel. It is the greatest derby in the country and we are looking forward to it."

Jurgen Klopp: "We both have tough schedules - yet both will give everything. Both teams have injury problems, but both will get 11 men on the field. These games stand out from the rest of the season. As well as the three points, the derby is always an opportunity to get what Neven Subotic has called 'Brownie Points'.The derby is the most extraordinary game of Bundesliga season."
