Police Scotland is investigating an incident at a Shetland farm after a woman was reportedly crushed to death by a cow she was helping give birth.

The 62-year-old is believed to have been crushed at a farm in Bixter, on Shetland, at about 5.10pm on 6 March.

She is thought to have been helping the cow give birth when she sustained fatal injuries by the livestock.

Police Scotland said there are no suspicious circumstances but the incident would be investigated by the force and the Health and Safety Executive.

A police spokesman said: "We received a report of a work-related incident at an agricultural site in Bixter. Police can confirm that a 62-year-old woman has died as a result of her injuries, which were sustained during an incident which involved the handling of livestock.

"A joint investigation with Police Scotland and the Health & Safety Executive has been carried out. There are no suspicious circumstances at this time."
