A man has been arrested on suspicion of trespassing on Buckingham Palace after climbing over the security fence.

Police said a 22-year-old man from Croydon was arrested just after 4am on 9 August on suspicion of trespassing on a protected site.

He was seen by officers who were monitoring CCTV and arrested within a security perimeter. Police confirm the man had been drinking and did not gain entry to the palace.

The man was not armed and no Taser was required to arrest him. He is currently in custody at a central London police station. Police said the security breach is not believed to be terrorism-related.

A Met Police spokesperson said:

A man has been arrested following a security breach at Buckingham Palace.

At approximately 04:15hrs on Tuesday, 9 August, officers arrested a 22-year-old from Croydon on suspicion of trespassing on a protected site (contrary to section 128 of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005) after he climbed over a security fence at Buckingham Palace.

He was seen by officers who were monitoring CCTV and arrested within a security perimeter. The man, who had been drinking, did not gain access to the palace. He was not armed. No Taser was deployed by officers. The man is currently in custody at a central London police station. The breach is not believed to be terrorism-related.

A 41-year-old man was previously arrested for scaling the perimeter wall at Buckingham Palace on the evening of 18 May.
