A number of people have been injured in a "serious" bus crash in North Ayrshire on 31 October. Police and ambulance crews are at the scene where a Stagecoach bus carrying at least nine people was in collision with a car in Hunterston, near West Kilbride.

The collision is believed to have happened at about 10.10am, and the A78 road has been closed between the Hunterston roundabout and the Clydeport roundabout while the incident is investigated.

There has been a number of injuries reported, with people being treated at Inverclyde Hospital and Crosshouse Hospital. One person was thought to be in the car at the time.

A spokesman for Stagecoach West Scotland said: "We can confirm that a car was in collision with one of our vehicles operating the 585 service near Largs. Our first thoughts are with the people who have been involved in the incident.

"The safety of our passengers and staff is our highest priory and we are assisting the police fully with their investigation into the circumstances."
