There's no shortage of vehicles to choose from at this year's North American International Auto Show, but when it comes to jaw droppers, Ford's new GT leads the pack.

"We want to make cars that make people's hearts pound and if this doesn't make your heart pound you may need to go see a doctor," the company's CEO Mark Fields said.

The new supercar comes equipped with a 600-horsepower, twin turbo engine. It goes into production next year. So far no price has been announced but you can bet this will cost a pretty penny.

The clean lines of the GT have been kept under wraps and were worked on secretly in the basement of Ford's headquarters for 16 months. Fields explained that while the company doesn't expect this vehicle to sell in volume, it is a car that represents what Ford is capable of.
