George Zimmerman the 28-year old neighbourhood watch volunteer who admitted he shot the unarmed black Florida teenager Trayvon Martin in a gated community, was charged with second degree murder and transferred to a county jail in Sanford Florida.

The controversial death of the teenager has garnered wide spread media coverage as it touched on America's self defense and gun laws, as well as what it means to be black in modern day America.
