SmackDown results: Dean Ambrose clashes with The Miz for Intercontinental title, James Ellsworth attacked

The latest episode of SmackDown Live saw an exciting line-up of matches aired from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on 6 December. In the match card Dean Ambrose challenged The Miz for the his Intercontinental title. In another featured match, Rhyno and Heath Slater squared off with The Wyatt Family for the latter's SmackDown Tag Team title.

The show kicked off with a segment on AJ Styles and James Ellsworth. The Phenomenal One said he will not be defending his WWE World Championship against Ellsworth as he was not medically cleared to fight. An angry Ellsworth entered the ring and suggested that Daniel Bryan might be protecting Styles. Ellsworth also reminded Styles that the latter would have lost his title at TLC's main event if it were not for the former.

Next, Ambrose entered the ring and carried out the Dirty Deeds on Ellsworth.

Afterwards, in The Miz and Ambrose segment, the Intercontinental champion talked about why Ambrose carried out the Dirty Deeds on Ellsworth earlier in the show. The Miz then reminded Ambrose that his puppet (Ellsworth) had betrayed him at TLC. The Miz added that he was looking forward to Ellsworth tearing apart Ambrose in their fight but was unhappy that match was cancelled.

The Miz further said that although the former came back empty handed from his TLC fight, he had something to give Ambrose. When Ambrose was presented with the first ever Miz Participation Award, he lost it and said he if could shove it down The Miz's throat.

As the situation was about to explode, SmackDown general manager Daniel Bryan appeared and said that he can't let Ambrose attack The Miz but announced that for the show's main card Ambrose would challenge The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship.

The Wyatt Family defeated Heath Slater and Rhyno after Randy Orton carried out an RKO on Slater.
