Technology is becoming more and more important in our live. From the smartphones we carry everywhere to the cars we drive, it is helping make or lives better - or at least that's the aim.

One place where technology is yet to make a real impact is in the home. While we have lots of technology in our home, the problem at the moment is that each piece of tech - be it a laptop, lighting, TV or sound system - works independently of each other.

While home automation systems have been around for a long time, it is only now that we are seeing them beginning to become the norm, and that trend is only going to grow, according to smart home expert Elizabeth Mead from research firm IHS analyst: "In the UK we're not seeing that much happening yet, but it's definitely on the cards."
