Apple's New iPad Vs Sony Tablet S

The Japanese tech giant, Sony, on 31 August, 2011 announced the market launch of Tablet S along with Tablet P. Both are the company's first two tablets. As the company claims, with the NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, the Tablet S allows the user to enjoy the web as well as applications on its high resolution screen.

Apple launched its next generation iPad featuring new retina display, new A5X chip with quad-core graphic and 5 megapixels iSight camera with advance optics.

A feature comparison between the Sony Tablet S and the new Apple iPad:

Models: The Sony Tablet S comes in two models, 16GB and 32GB and the new iPad also comes in two models, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+4G

Display: Tablet S features a 9.4-inch LED-lit TrueBlack screen with capacitive touch panel. The resolution of the display is 1280x800 pixels.

The new iPad features a 9.7-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen multi-touch, high resolution retina display along with In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology. The resolution of the display is 2048x1536 pixels. The display moreover features fingerprint-resistance oleophobic coating and it supports for display of multiple languages.

Camera:-Tablet S sports a primary camera of 5 megapixels at the rear-end and a front facing Face Focus VGA camera.

On the other hand the new iPad has a 5-megapixel iSight camera with autofocus, tap to focus and face detection in still images. It can record videos in HD 1080p up to 30 frames per second with audio. It also has a Face Time camera with VGA-quality photos and video at up to 30 frames per second.

Dimension and Weight: The dimension of Sony Tablet S is 241.2x10.1x174.3mm and weighs approximately 598g.

The new iPad Wi-Fi model measures 241.2x185.7x9.4mm in thickness and it weighs 652g (1.44 pounds). The dimension of the Wi-Fi+4G iPad model is 241.2x185.7x9.4mm and weighs 662g (1.46 pounds).

Wireless and Carriers: Tablet S offers Bluetooth version 2.1+EDR, IR and Wi-Fi b/g/n.

The new iPad offers Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n) and Bluetooth version 4.0. The Wi-Fi+4G model can run on both the carrier AT&T and Verizon and offers Long Term Evaluation (LTE) connectivity.

Battery Life: Sony Tablet S has a Li-Ion 5000mAh battery which runs up to 8 hours including browsing the web with Wi-Fi, watching videos and listening to music.

Both the Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+4G new iPad models feature a built-in 42.5 watt-hour rechargeable lithium-polymer battery which can run up to 10 hours. The battery can be charged via power adapter or USB to computer.

Processor: The new iPad is powered with dual-core Apple A5X custom-designed chip with a quad-core graphics while Sony Tablet S is powered with 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor.

Storage:- The internal memory storage of Tablet S is 16GB and 32GB. The RAM is of 1GB and it supports microSD card.

The new iPad Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+4G models come in 16GB, 32GB and 64 GB version.

Price: The Sony Tablet S model is available at a price of $399.99 for 16GB and $499.99 for 32GB model.

In contrast, the new iPad Wi-Fi model is available at a retail price of $499 for 16GB, $599 for 32GB and $699 for 64GB. Likewise the Wi-Fi+4G is available at a retail price of $629 for 16GB, $729 for 32GB and $829 for 64GB.

Operating System: Tablet S runs with Android 3.1 Honeycomb operating system. Optimally designed hardware and software, a swift and smooth experience, network entertainment service and cross-device functionality are some of the key features, the company claims that make its devices distinguished among other tablets.

The new iPad will run with iOS 5.1. A redesigned camera app with video stabilisation technology, the ability to delete photos from Photo Stream, support for dictation in English, French, German and Japanese and Personal Hotspot are a few key enhancement features of the new iPad.
