Prince William and Kate Middleton attended the St Patrick's Day parade at Mons Barracks in Aldershot today to present sprigs of shamrocks to the Officers and Guardsmen of the 1st Battalion Irish Guards. Kate also decorated the regimental mascot, an Irish Wolfhound, with shamrocks.

This annual tradition dates back to 1901, when Queen Alexandra requested that shamrocks be given to the regiment on St Patrick's Day.

Kate wore the appropriate colour - a green double-breasted wool trench coat from Hobbs accessorised with a sprig of shamrocks and a green hat she had previously worn on Christmas Day.
