Wawrinka is one of the favourites to win the 2016 Dubai Open and his chances of winning the tournament improved after he sealed a berth in the quarter-finals. He defeated Franko Skugor in the second round of the tournament.

The Swiss tennis star had a tough fight in the first set against Skugor as it ended in Wawrinka's favour. However, the 30-year-old bounced back in the second straight to seal the match as the final score was 7-5, 6-1.

Meanwhile, Kohlschreiber had to defeat Borna Coric in the previous round to make it to the last eight of the tournament. It was a straight set victory for the German as he clinched the match after winning the second set in a tiebreaker. The final score was 6-2, 7-6.

Kohlschreiber has never defeated Wawrinka in either ATP's or Grand Slam events. The latter is the favourite to progress further to the semi-final, unless Kohlschreiber can manage an upset on Thursday.
