Overview

World number five Stan Wawrinka is on course for his best ever result in the Toronto Masters when he takes part in the quarter final on 29 July. The Swiss, is yet to reach the semi-final of the event and will look to continue his good form and book his place in the last four.

The second seed at this tournament comes into this clash on the back of some impressive performances beating Russian Mikhail Youzhny 7-6 (3), 7-6 (8) in the second round while cruising past American Jack Sock 7-6 (3), 6-2 in the third round.

Wawrinka has struggled against Anderson in the past, but is the definite favourite to reach his first ever Toronto Open semi-final.

His opponent, Kevin Anderson had a career-best season in 2015, reaching the top-10 for the first time while also making his first Grand Slam quarter final appearance at the US Open. However, he has not been able to continue his form this season, a fact which could be due to the shoulder injury he picked up.

The South African's return from injury has not been smooth, suffering a first-round defeat at the Citi Open in Washington D.C at the hands of Malek Jaziri. Anderson's record against Wawrinka is impressive, which shows that he has been able to hold his own against the Swiss player. At this the point though, looking at the graph of their careers, it is unlikely that Anderson will triumph on 29 July.
