Overview

World number three, Stan Wawrinka returns to the court after a well deserved two-week break, and will look to continue his good form this season. The Swiss has had a successful 2016 campaign so far as he has won the Chennai, Dubai and Geneva titles as well as his first US Open title.

While Wawrinka may take time to get into his stride, he does not have a particularly good record at the Shanghai Masters, with his best finish coming in the quarter-final stage. The 31-year-old does come into this game as the favourite, but will need to hit top form, considering the strength of his opponent at Shanghai.

Kyle Edmund is in the midst of a career-best season with the British tennis sensation moving from world number 102 at the beginning of the year, to the 48th spot, post the recently concluded China Open.

The Brit is yet to shine on the global stage, but was impressive in the 2016 Davis Cup tie in Andy Murray's absence and is capable of causing an upset considering Wawrinka is coming back from a break.
