Star Wars The Force Awakens continues its record breaking journey but after the shocking and heart-warming ending of the seventh episode, fans are eager to learn more about the plot of Star Wars 8. John Boyega, who plays Finn in the seventh instalment of the space odyssey, has revealed that the plot of the upcoming movie will be "darker".

While speaking to Vogue he said that the script is "much darker, but we're very excited." He also hinted that episode 8 will feature plenty of action. "For this film we really just took it scene by scene, there wasn't a huge regime. My part in the next film will be much more physical so I might be in the gym a bit more."

The plot of TFA was captivating especially for Daisy Ridley's powerful portrayal of the lead character Rey, the space scavenger who mysteriously inherits the power of the force. But the mystery about her identity has kept fans busy speculating about whether she is a Skywalker, a Solo or a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Responding to the popular theories floating around, Colin Trevorrow, who is slated to helm the ninth movie of the blockbuster franchise, has revealed that Rey is the most important character of the latest trilogy and her backstory is not only important for the Force Awakens but to the entire universe of Star Wars.

"I've seen all of the theories", he told ET. "What I do know is that we're going to make sure that that answer is deeply and profoundly satisfying, because Rey is a character that is important in this universe, not just in the context of The Force Awakens but in the entire galaxy, and she deserves it".

The eighth movie is also expected to be more of Luke Skywalker, the Jedi Master who went into self-imposed exile after one of his Jedi, Kylo Ren, turns to the dark side. In TFA, Ren, who is also the son of Han Solo and General Leia, vows to carry the dark legacy of his grandfather Darth Vader.

Episode VII ended with Rey finally finding Luke's hidden planet and meeting him face-to-face. It is rumoured that she will get much needed valuable advice from Luke to use her powers in order to face Kylo who vows to destroy the Resistance army led by his mother. Star Wars 8 will be directed by Rian Johnson and is scheduled to premiere on 26 May 2017.
