Star Wars actors on Carrie Fisher's 'emotional' final scenes in Last Jedi: 'She is irreplaceable'
Fisher passed away on 27 December 2016 at the age of 60.
Carrie Fisher may have passed away but she is still alive in the memories of her co-stars and fans. The actors of Star Wars: The Last Jedi have opened up about Princess Leia actress' emotional final scenes.
Fisher, who passed away on 27 December 2016, will reprise her iconic role as Leia Organa for the last time. Oscar Isaac who plays Poe Dameron in the Star Wars 8 movies told E! News that Carrie's performance in the newest instalment of the sci-fi classic is a "beautiful tribute to Leia and everything she has really represented throughout...all of the films".
Gwendoline Christie, who plays Captain Phasma in Star Wars 8 added, "You could feel all of us, the second she appeared on the screen, that everyone took a breath."
Director Rian Johnson also got emotional talking about Fisher's final scenes. He explained, "It is so complicated watching it, you know, because on one level, again, it is just a beautiful performance, on the other level you are watching your friend who you are not going to see again."
He also had some words for the fans who will be watching the late actress play Leia for the final time. Johnson said, "And for audiences, it is going to be probably similar, you know, you have people—fans grew up not only watching Leia on the screen but also watching Carrie and loving her. So it is going to be a sort of goodbye."
The actor who has been Fisher's companion since Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope came out in 1977, Mark Hamill possibly feels her loss the most. Hamill, who starred opposite her as her on-screen brother Luke Skywalker, said to the outlet, "It is difficult thinking of her in the past tense. She was so vile and spirited and energetic. She is irreplaceable."
"And I really get mad at her, which is so selfish. I should be grateful for the time i had with her rather than wanting more," he added of her co-star.
Other than paying tribute to Fisher, The Last Jedi will find Rey, having taken her first steps into the Jedi world, joining Luke Skywalker on an adventure with Leia, Finn and Poe that unlocks mysteries of the Force and secrets of the past.
