Metropolitan Police investigating the murder of Stefan Appleton in Islington have have arrested five teenagers.

Officers arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of murder on Saturday (13 June) and are questioning him at a north London police station.

Detectives also arrested another 16-year-old after the executed a warrant at an address in Holloway in the early hours of Sunday (14 June). He is also currently in custody at a north London police station.

Three other 16-year-old boys were arrested at the same address on suspicion of robbery and attempting to pervert the course of justice and they too remain in custody but at an east London police station.

Police were called just after 6pm on Wednesday, 10 June, to reports of a man stabbed in Caldy Walk.

Officers, London Ambulance Service (LAS) and London's Air Ambulance attended the scene and took Appleton to a north London hospital where he later died at 7.45pm.

A post-mortem examination to place on Friday, (12 June) at Poplar Mortuary and gave the cause of death as shock and haemorrhage due to a stab wound to the chest.

Detectives have established that Stefan was in Nightingale Park with friends when two youths pulled up on a moped.

The pillion passenger on the moped attacked Stefan – stabbing him a number of times with a large bladed knife before making off on the moped along Nightingale Road.

Detectives previously appealed to trace the whereabouts of the moped; the vehicle has now been located.
