Where to Watch Live

Kick-off is at 4pmBST. Live coverage is on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 1 HD. Radio commentary of the game will be available on BBC Radio 5 Live. Catch the highlights of the match on Match of the Day 2 on BBC Radio One and BBC Radio One HD at 10:30pm BST.

Overview

The last time these two teams faced each other was during the final game of the 2014/15 season. It was also Steven Gerrard's last game in Liverpool shirt as they suffered a humiliating 6-1 defeat at the hands of Stoke.

Brendan Rodgers will be hoping to start the season on a brighter note with a win over the Potters in the season-opener. The Reds have added more firepower to their squad by securing the services of Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke.

The Brazil international is unlikely to star, while another summer signing James Milner, who impressed in the pre-season fixtures could make his debut for Liverpool. Rodgers will have a tough choice in selecting his left-back as both Alberto Moreno and Joe Gomez are in contention.

Meanwhile, Mark Hughes will have to do without the services of star defender Ryan Showcross, who will miss this fixture due to injury. Stoke will be hoping to seal another victory over the Merseyside club when they face them on 9 August at home.

What They Say

Mark Hughes: "It doesn't matter what level you play at, a significant defeat like that generates questions about a lot of things that happen at the club. That was to be expected in the few days after the result. It's something that maybe has focussed everybody connected with Liverpool. It' s made them understand what they needed to be stronger this season."

Brendan Rodgers: "I need to regain their trust again. It has been an incredible journey since I came in here and it is an absolute privilege to manage this club with the supporters we have behind us, but you have to do well to earn that support and I need to earn that again."
