A 15-year-old girl from Stowmarket has died during a school trampoline lesson after she suddenly collapsed.

Lily Webster was a year 11 pupil at Stowmarket High School and was taking part in her usual PE lesson at nearby Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre where she collapsed.

She was taken to hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.

Suffolk County Council said counsellors would be on hand at the deal to help fellow pupils deal with the tragedy.

Keith Penn, the head teacher said: "The whole Stowmarket High School community is shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic and sudden death.

"Popular, active, bright and with a very wide circle of friends, Lily will be desperately missed by students and staff and all those who knew her.

"All our thoughts and prayers are with her family and close friends at this time."

Gary Sanderson of the East of England Ambulance Service told the Mirror: "Our thoughts are with the girl's family."

Family and friends have set up a Facebook page to commemorate Lily's life.

One friend posted: "If tears were a stairway and memories were a dream, we'd walk up to heaven and bring you home again :') R.I.p Lily...♥♥♥ "

A council spokesperson told the BBC: "As part of this terrible tragedy, the leisure centre and the school are required to notify the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

"The HSE will then decide if an investigation will be led by themselves or if Mid Suffolk District Council will be required to complete this.

"At this point we are awaiting confirmation from the HSE on the this matter."
