Liverpool's hopes of making it to the Champions League next season were shattered after Sunderland managed to pull off a 1-0 victory over the Reds at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats, in spite of having their two key players, Stéphane Sessègnon and Lee Cattermole, on the bench due to injuries, managed to grab the only goal of the game via Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner (on-loan from Arsenal) at the 56th minute.

The Reds, who were desperately looking for an equaliser, failed to break the Black Cats defence even after bringing in their star players Steven Gerrard and Andy Carroll.

It was a close game but Sunderland managed to keep their nerves and finally claim their much needed 3 points of the match.
