A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault on a Tube station in east London after a video was circulated online.

The footage taken at Uptown Park station shows a white male punching an Asian man in the face before getting off the carriage and being chased down the platform by a woman at around 3:40pm on 17 October.

Miqdaad Versi, assistant secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain, posted the footage on Twitter. He wrote in a caption alongside the video: "Apparent racist attack on London Underground. hope perpetrator is found and faces justice for this despicable, unprovoked assault."

British Transport Police were made aware of the footage and said they were treating the attack as a hate crime.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and using threatening words and behaviour. He has been bailed until 14 November.
