A 70-year-old is due in court charged with shooting a 61-year-old Reuters

A 70-year-old man from the sleepy Sussex village of Fittleworth has been charged with shooting a 61-year-old man. Brian Acott, 70, from Fairmead Close, was arrested and subsequently charged with wounding with intent, possessing a firearm when prohibited for life and possessing a prohibited weapon.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before Crawley magistrates on Monday (2 November). Officers were called to an address in Fairmead Close at around 6.40pm on Saturday to a report of an argument between two men.

A 61-year-old man from the village was treated by paramedics at the scene for a gunshot wound to the leg and taken to hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening. Detective Inspector Rob Walker said: "This shooting will no doubt have come as a shock to the local community, but I would like to reassure residents that incidents like this are extremely rare in the area.
