At least 12 people were killed and 100 others injured in the Syrian City of Homs on Tuesday. Homs has come under heavy bombardment over the last few days and Tuesday's was the heaviest, the BBC reported.

Scores have died in the 11-month-long uprising against the government. According to human rights groups, more than 7,000 have been killed in the uprising. The field hospital at Homs was hit on Tuesday.

The Syrian government says it is acting to clear out pockets of "armed terrorist gangs". The government claims that at least 2,000 security members have died fighting the rebels since the uprising began.

A mass resistance in Baba Amr district is feared that could cause several deaths and destruction.
