Tablet computers and teenage fiction are among the most recent additions to the UK Consumer Prices Index (CPI).

The CPI is a 'shopping basket' of around 650 goods, the average prices of which are calculated in order to make an official measure of inflation of consumer prices for the country.

A glimpse at the full list of the CPI paints a picture of the government's view of the typical consumer, while demonstrating the change in spending and products over time.
