Tate & Lyle has announced a solid performance during its fourth quarter which will consolidate a good performance for its full year.

The British maker of sweeteners and starches gave a trading update showing a strong performance in the first three months of 2012, ahead of trading results on May 31.

The group, based in London, saw good sales growth in its speciality food ingredients, including its sucrose sweetener, with higher volume across all major product categories. Its bulk ingredients also fared well on the back of higher competeing sugar prices.

Its shares have risen almost 40 percent since its 499 point lowest point in the summer of 2011, closing on March 29 at 695 pence.
