It was a successful night for One Direction at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards as the group walked away with eight of the famous surfboards. The boy band's loyal supporters, the Directioners, are particularly impressed that they managed to win an award for fan-favourite track No Control, which is not even an official single.

During the awards ceremony, which was hosted at the Galen Center in Los Angeles on 16 August, 1D members Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne, became the proud winners of the Choice male hottie award, beating their former bandmate Zayn Malik who was also nominated in the category.

Among their other triumphs, the What Makes You Beautiful hitmakers also scooped the Choice male music group, Choice song for their 2014 single Steal My Girl, Choice summer tour for their current jaunt On The Road Again and Choice love song for their romantic ballad Night Changes.

Perhaps their most surprising win was in the party song category where their scooped the surfboard for No Control, which features on their latest album Four. Reacting to the exciting news, one fan commented on Twitter: "It's rare for a song to win an award w/o being released as a single, which speaks to the greatness of 'no control'. congrats @onedirection!!" while another proud supporter said: "Guys No Control ain't even a single but it won a freaking award. BLESS THIS FANDOM."

The eight awards have now brought the total of One Direction's Teen Choice to 23. The band were not present at the awards ceremony due to their hectic tour schedule but they released a pre-recorded message thanking fans for their support. In the video, Styles, 21, said: "We just want to say a massive thank you for these awards that you've given us this year." Pointing at the surfboard award he then joked: "We should probably begin to surf, we can't swim."

Other big winners of the night included, girl group Little Mix who won the Choice breakout artist, Fifth Harmony who scooped the Choice female group, British singer Ed Sheeran who walked away with the Choice male artist and Taylor Swift who won Choice female artist.
