A suspected terror attack has taken place in a synagogue in Jerusalem's orthodox Har Nof neighbourhood, as two unidentified men opened fire on worshippers killing at least five people and injuring several others.

Initial reports suggest that both the assailants were killed by security forces during a confrontation and police said there were "several injuries".

The attackers are said to have initially stabbed the worshippers with knives before opening fire on them.

"We are viewing this as a terrorist attack," police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld was quoted as saying.

Local media reports said both the attackers were Palestinians and were armed with axes and knives as well.

Emergency personnel are also at the scene.

A chilling video of the armed confrontation with the perpetrators has also emerged.
