A series of tornadoes has ripped through Dallas, Texas wreaking havoc in the area and uprooting trees, flipping trucks and grounding flights.

Though there were no immediate deaths or injuries reported, roofs and upper floors of several houses were blown away by the tornado that hit south of the city. Some homes were destroyed.

Television footage showed mangled and flying vehicles and smashed trailers in truck yards.

At least two large and extremely dangerous tornadoes hit the area, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Hundreds of flights were cancelled at the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport and there were reports of more than a hundred flights damaged in the hail and heavy rain that followed the tornado.
