Exactly five years ago, Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise married Katie Holmes in an elaborate fairytale wedding in Italy on this day.

The actors, who dated only for two months, announced their engagement on June 17, 2005. The "Valkyrie" actor, then 42, had proposed to the "Dawson Creek" actress, then 26, with a large solitaire diamond engagement ring on the top of Eiffel tower in Paris, France.

Cruise had a private official wedding with his fiancée reportedly at their Beverly Hills Mansion in Los Angeles, Calif., prior to two weeks before their ceremonial wedding in Italy.

Holmes, who was previously engaged to Chris Klein, got married to the "Mission Impossible" actor, who has been twice divorced from ex-wives Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman, in a Scientology ceremony at the Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy on Nov. 18, 2006.

The high-profile wedding had 150 guests including celebrities Martin and Kathy Holmes, Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jenna Elfman, Leah Remini, Cameron Crowe, Paula Wagner, Brooke Shields, Chris Henchy, Jim Carrey, Jenny McCarthy, John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Steven Spielberg, Kate Capshaw, Victoria Beckham, Angelo Pagan, J.J. Abrams and Will Smith.

The wedding took place exactly seven months after the birth of their daughter Suri Cruise in 2006. After the birth of Suri, Tom and Katie began living a secluded lifestyle in their Beverly Hills mansion.
