Katie Holmes and daughter Suri met with a car accident on Tuesday when their Mercedez was hit by a garbage truck in New York. Luckily, the mother and daughter escaped unhurt.

"The luxury sedan was struck on the rear driver's side by a dumptruck? which also received some minor dents. The truck appeared to have backed into the sedan, and police were called to the scene to take an incident report, but no injuries were reported," reported X17Online.com.

A few reports indicate that the actress and her child were in the car when the accident happened while a few others say that only the driver was in it when it was hit by the sanitation truck.

After the accident, the pair was driven back safely to their New York residence. The Mercedes S550 sustained a large dent and several scratches to the rear driver side panel.

The actress ditched her previous security team in an effort to sever additional ties to Tom Cruise as she filed for divorce from the Hollywood legend, according to the New York Daily News.

Meanwhile, father Tom Cruise is expected to see daughter Suri soon following the accident.

"Tom will be seeing Suri very soon. I don't know exactly when that will be, and I couldn't tell you, but I do know it will be very soon. Tom loves his Suri very, very much, as he does his other two children. Tom is a family man and dedicated to his children. They are the center of his world," lawyer Bert Fields told Radar Online.

There is more. Holmes, who was raised Catholic and relocated to New York City as she moved to divorce Tom Cruise, has selected Manhattan's Convent of the Sacred Heart, according to E! News. Sacred Heart boasts of alumnae with names such as Kennedy, Hilton and Vanderbilt, plus one Stefani Germanotta, a.k.a. Lady Gaga.

Katie had reportedly filed for divorce from husband Tom Cruise a few weeks ago, fearing Scientology's influence on her daughter.
