It's not everyday you see a Hollywood star in Morden, but the locals could not quite believe their eyes when Tom Cruise unexpectedly landed in a private helicopter at a local sports ground. The 53-year-old star caught residents by surprise as he landed the aircraft on the Old Rutlishian Sports' Ground in Poplar Road, on Thursday 30 June.

The Mission Impossible star enthusiastically greeted the shocked bystanders, who tweeted about their unexpected encounter with Cruise.

Old Ruts Football Club posted a tweet about his arrival on the turf, writing: "Lets hope this coming season isn't a mission impossible. Mr Top Gun himself dropped by poplar road. @TomCruise"

Another local in disbelief posted: "Tom Cruise just landed by helicopter in a park close to my house ."

"Why is Tom Cruise in Morden??" asked another.

According to The Wimbledon Guardian, the movie star landed at 10am BST and was whisked away in a BMW to a location in London where he is shooting scenes for his latest film, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.

The actor, who is renowned for doing his own stunts in his action movies, recently tweeted: "'These films are so much fun to make. I hope you all enjoy the trailer!"

The three-time Oscar nominee reprises his role as the ex-military officer in the eagerly anticipated film.
