Olympic diver Tom Daley has been crowned Sexiest Man in the World, by readers of Attitude magazine. The 19-year-old, Britain's bronze medallist at the 2012 London Olympics, was honoured at a ceremony held at a West End hotel.

In the poll conducted by the UK's best-selling gay magazine, former England national football team captain David Beckham made it to second spot. Superman star Henry Cavill was third, followed by Prince Harry and One Direction's Zayn Malik, who completed the top five.

"We thought we'd turn the regular sexiest women polls on their head. It's a bit of fun but the response was overwhelming and there were some surprising votes!" the magazine's editor, Matthew Todd said, "Tom Daley won by a country mile, and Prince Harry did extraordinarily well, no doubt in part due to recent revelations that he stepped in to stop a homophobic attack on former soldier James Wharton."

Earlier this year, Daley was named Hottest Hunk of 2013 by readers of Heat magazine.

Daley, who was also voted as the hardest-working celebrity in a poll, is in Barcelona for the upcoming FINA World Championships. However, a glandular problem has put his participation in doubt.

"His glands have swollen and that means he is not able to get into the various shapes because of the pain factor," his coach, Andy Banks, told BBC Devon, "He's just coming out of that now, and the physios are getting him out of that, hopefully in time for the competition in a couple of weeks' time."

"He's done progressive lead-ups on lower boards while he's had some of these problems. It's not as if he has done nothing, but it's about preparation. But he's still chomping at the bit, and I'm sure he'll give as good a performance as he can," Banks added.
