Berdych sealed his place in the quarterfinal of the 2014 French Open at the expense of his John Isner on Sunday. The sixth seed Czech Republican took 112 minutes to register a, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, victory against the fifth victory against the 29-year-old in overall meetings.
Gulbis, on the other hand, conjured the second biggest upset of the tournament in Men's singles by pulling off a shock victory Roger Federer in a game lasting a staggering 222 minutes.
Holding a 1-2 record in overall meetings against the 17-time Grand Slam winner, the 18th seed lost the first se, 6-7(5-7), in the tiebreaker before racing into a shock 2-1 lead winning the second and third set, 7-6 (3), 6-2, respectively.
The Swiss maestro looked in no mood to quit as he took the fourth set, 6-4, forcing a decider. But the 25-year-old looked the fresher of the two players as he knocked Federer out before the quarterfinal for the first time in 10 years by clinching the set, 6-3.
Berdych and Gulbis are facing each other for the seventh time in their careers. The former has reached the semi-final of the clay courts in Paris only once in his career while the Latvian made it to the last eight of this tournament only for the second time.
The winner of this clash looks poised to face one of the tournament's favourites in world no 2, Novak Djokovic, who is in action against ninth ranked Milos Raonic on Court Philippe Chatrier.

What They Say
Ernests Gulbis: "It's the biggest win of my career. Sorry I had to win. I know how everyone likes Roger. It was a tough match but this is sport. I've been playing very well in France. I won tournaments in Marseille and Nice, hopefully Paris is the next one. For my confidence and just for me as a tennis player, a five-set win over Roger Federer, it's really big. Hopefully it's going to change me that I become more confident about myself, you know, on a tennis court."
